Cannon Report
I've met hardened hearts
on the boulevard to the graves
of children who last were running
down these Paris lanes
I am nothing more to the few
who see me here than a part
in the town's gray tapestry
of war begotten guilt
It's been a year
I haven't felt the change
I am still waiting for the cannon report
to bring me to the end
I've been waiting for
but it isn't coming
I have met great men
I was one for a day
but war has taken my fear of death
and left a lust in its place
A lust to end the misery
of a life with the memory
of a pain that won't recur
of a life that won't be bent again
It's been ten years
I haven't felt the change
I am still waiting for the cannon report
to bring me to the end
I’ve been waiting for
but it isn't coming
I’ve been waiting all these years
for the death of a man
and I don't think the chance
is ever coming
It's been twenty years
I haven't felt the change
I am still waiting for the cannon report
to bring me to the end
I’ve been waiting for
but it isn't coming

Sweet Sister

Sweet Sister
Eyes without longing
ear that hears no beat
heart left artless
hands that have never known a need
Sparrow on your rooftop
lilies upon the sill
the ocean lies out your window
yet nothing holds you in its spell
You are a fleeting hour
You're a faded summer day
Can you see it
Can you feel it
You child of an ancient sin
your mind is the stillest water
aching for a terrifying wind
You who couldn't see
with ears that couldn't hear
hearts that could not sense
when he began to leave
This is why
your ageless father turned
and walked away
It is finished
and I am crying
while you hold fast
to the ashes of your broken home
and you hold his memory
in your frail hands
Sweet sister
let it fall

Fathers and Sons

Fathers and Sons
Blue uniform
disguise adolescence
and the fearful distance
between fathers and sons
Your yoke is a burden
no love is light
the veil it is seamless
between fathers and sons
Can you hear me
Can you hear me out
Can you hear me
Oh year
Oh musket
Make me a hero
in the glass case religion
of fathers and sons
Oh soul be content with
this fare be it meager
love for the mythic is still a love
between fathers and sons
Can you hear me
Can you hear me out
Can you hear me
But if you don’t
oh try to deceive me
father won't you please
but I know you won't
ever deceive me
Can you hear me
Can you hear me out
Can you hear me

To Him
02:10
|
|||
To Him
I hear you coming down the stairs
I see you’re in the cradle of a new hope
darling I know where you are going now
to him
Please don’t let your fear choke the joy
Darling your joy is all I have to cling to
Know darling know
I can see where you’re going
Know darling know
I’ve been down this road before
alone
And I won’t let you face
the tragedy of love alone

Let Me In

Let Me In
Let me in
Let me know
why you are here
and why I still feel alone
My love is a lie
It has always been a lie
for you to find
the truth inside of
Let me feel
Let me go
Why do you fear the future
when it's unknown
Your love is alive
It has always been alive
for me to find
the death inside of
Oh and you know I will
Let yourself
begin to grow
back toward the love
that we shared before
my will was untied
when my life was in the line of yours
and you couldn't find
a source
I won't stay close
as an enemy
but I won't let you hide
me away safely
My life is on fire
My hopes are a flame to yours
and you'll never find
a cure
I know you’ve tried
Oh and I know you've tried

Lion and Lamb

|

Lion and Lamb
Mine is a will
that bends and bows like meadow grass
when the gales of listless thought
bear it down
God has left me the sole divine
And I fear the nails
I fear the moment
in which I forgive myself
The time is now
now is all the time you'll ever have
Is it enough
Mine is a heart
that leaks and strains like an ancient skin
when the wine of wild dreams
fills the chest
I would that I were a maker of peace
And I fear the rifle
I fear the report
that all my life has been is a war
The time is now
now is all the time you'll ever have
Is it enough
To see the lion
laying down
with the lamb

The Writer Sits

The Writer Sits
The writer sits
fighting the urge to be heard
in the words that float from pen to page
In the morning
a thousand warnings stir
that nothing in the world remains
All this I know will never be so
yet I pour my heart into words on a page
Fears fighting hope
I continue to pull myself down
into the darkest place
Oh Lord
save me a place
in the arbitrary culture of taste
Dear friend won't you let me in
to your world
your home
your mind
All this I know will never be so
yet I pour my heart into words on a page
Fears fighting hope
I continue to pull myself down
into the darkest place
I'm losing all my lovers
I'm caught in the illusion
that every word I pen could turn
to gold
My love
I am alive
a crow in the wire
in this world like a strangled note
Lord
I am alive
the crow in your wire
why won't you bend your ear
Oh
I am alive
and while I'm still alive
won't you let me in
The writer sits
fighting the urge to be heard
in the words that float from pen to page
In the morning
a thousand warnings stir
that nothing in the world remains
